grants from two major U.S. foundations will
permit CEP to continue efforts first made
possible by grants from these foundations.
The Eurasia Foundation, which receives its
funds from the United States Agency for
International Development, has approved an
18-month, $270,000 grant to CEP in further
support of CEP's programs in Russia and Ukraine,
and to help make possible start-up CEP programs
in Kazakhstan and Belarus. This grant builds upon
an earlier Eurasia Foundation grant to CEP that
provided start-up funds and first year operating
support for CEP's program in Russia, which began
in September 1994.
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has agreed to
provide $50,000 toward the costs of CEP's new
Regional Needs Assessment Project, a region-wide
study of the most pressing needs facing higher
education reform. This study builds upon CEP's
earlier Book and Journal Donation Assessment
Project, which was also supported by a Mellon
Foundation grant.
